چکیده

We have analyzed 12 decimetric continuum (type IV) events during solar flares showing intermediate drift (IMD) fine structures in the 1 3 GHz band. This is the first time IMD patterns have been reported above 1 GHz and that the full spectrum of both continuum and IMD bursts has been covered. The IMD pattern was usually shifted to higher frequency and tends to occur later than the continuum. Average drift rates of IMD bursts per event were found by cross-correlation yielding ν̇/ν = -0.167 to -0.046 s−1. The average second derivative of individual IMD bursts expressed as ν̈ν̇−2ν is 0.42 to 4.19. Normalized by the mean frequency, these high-frequency IMD bursts are found to be identical in their characteristics with this type of bursts below 1 GHz. The derived burst parameters require an important change in one of the two existing theories.

A study of magnetic drift motion of particles around the equatorial plasmapause by using the cluster observation

On August 7, 2003 the Cluster spacecraft moved through the dayside magnetosphere. The energetic particle spectrometer on board Cluster provided measurements of an extensive range of energy. Besides, satellite measurements of geomagnetic field showed a gradient magnetic field. It is known that an inhomogeneity of the magnetic field leads to a drift of charged particles. In this paper, the drift ...

Propagation of shock waves in the solar corona with 2-D loop structures

Motivated by recent observations of type II radio bursts, we study propagation of shock waves by the twodimensional numerical magnetohydrodynamic model. Explosion of a hot plasma is investigated for various ratios of the mass density and magnetic field intensity in a fan of coronal loops. Ducting of shock waves occurs along loop-like structure and ducting of possible radio emission in under-den...

Radial evolution of intermittent heat flux in solar coronal holes

Recently, we suggested that the source of ion heating in solar coronal holes is small-scale reconnection events (microflares) at the coronal base. The microflares launch intermittent heat flux up into the corona exciting ion cyclotron waves through a plasma microinstability. The ions are heated by these waves during the microflare bursts and then evolve with no energy input between the bursts. ...

Drift of jovian S-burst inferred from adiabatic motion in a parallel electric field

We study the effect of a parallel electric field on the adiabatic motion of electrons trapped in the Io flux tube and we derive the frequency drift rate of the S-bursts emitted at the gyrofrequency. The magnetic field model is a dipole and the cyclotron maser instability is the mechanism responsible for the emission. It appears that weak values of the electric field (a few μVm−1) may change dra...
